The Black Dyke Mills Band is probably the UK’s most prestigious brass band, founded in 1855, and making its first recordings in 1904.

Johnny A Greenwood (1876-1953) was a cornettist, composer and brass band conductor. One of his best known works is The Acrobat, with its wonderful trombone solo. I remember this fondly as the theme tune to the mid 1980s children’s TV serial “”Jonny Briggs, based on the novels by Joan Eadington.
