Boyd Neel (1905 – 1981), a qualified doctor, never gave up his first love, music, and founded his orchestra in the 1930s, and began to record for Decca. After a hiatus for the Second World War, the orchestra was reformed and continued to record through to the 1953, when Neel moved to Canada. He had a fine ear, drew excellent playing from his chamber orchestra, and was a pioneer of the baroque revival.
