Nikolai Sokoloff (1886-1965) was the founding music director of the Cleveland Orchestra, and made a number of recordings with the orchestra. Very few of these were extended works – he made the premiere recording of Rachmaninov’s 2nd Symphony, and also he recorded Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony – surely one of the most recorded symphonies of the 78rpm era.
